Brittney McCoy, Psy.D.
Temporary Licensed Psychologist
Brittney McCoy is excited to join the Mandala House team as a Supervised Clinical Associate as she continues her lifelong learning, growth, and development as a psychologist. She earned her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Spalding University School of Professional Psychology after having worked as a Licensed Psychological Associate for four years as a behavioral therapist for adults with traumatic brain injuries. Since then, she has added to her skillset through her work with elementary school students, college students, and a variety of adults in a community mental health setting. She completed her predoctoral internship at University of Kentucky Counseling center where she worked with traditional and non-traditional college and graduate students on a variety of presenting concerns ranging from relationships, interpersonal challenges, anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, grief, and identity exploration and development. She values the utility of psychological assessment in improving client insight and understanding of self.
Dr. McCoy is a fiercely dedicated clinician who strives to empower anyone with whom she works. Her work with clients is fortified in her belief that every person deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood, and that no one should have to endure life’s hardships alone. She values utilizing a person-centered, intersectional, and multicultural lens in therapy to meet clients where they are, in every facet of who they are, and moving forward collaboratively to help them achieve their goals. She encourages clients to show up authentically as themselves and strives to provide a safe space for them to explore their various identities and how they want to show up in the world, free of judgment.
Across her variety of work and training experiences, Dr. McCoy has worked with clients across the lifespan on general mental health issues, adjustment disorders, transitional and stage of life challenges, implementing desired behavior changes, interpersonal challenges, depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, and various forms of identity exploration and development. In addition to her work with individuals, she also has experience with couples/relationship counseling, group therapy, and family therapy. Dr. McCoy integrates humanistic and emotion-focused principles, mindfulness, Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy into her empathy-driven work with clients.
Outside of her professional life, Brittney enjoys listening to music and audiobooks, cooking, doing arts and crafts, and spending time with her friends, family, and pets.
