Kristopher Mandy, Psy.D.

Temporary Licensed Psychologist

Kristopher Mandy is a dedicated Supervised Clinical Associate at Mandala House, bringing a wealth of experience in mental health care. He earned his doctorate in clinical psychology from Spalding University's School of Professional Psychology. Kristopher has a diverse background, having interned at the Louisville VA, where he worked with veterans on general mental health issues, PTSD, trauma-related disorders, substance use, and dual diagnosis. His professional journey also includes roles in a college counseling center, community mental health settings, and public schools as a therapist.

Dr. Mandy’s academic endeavors include a dissertation focused on the experience of microaggressions among black-identifying individuals who never attended college. He is also contributing to a forthcoming book chapter addressing challenges and solutions for employers and single parents in the workplace. Kristopher values utilizing a multicultural lens in therapy and meeting clients where they are, then moving forward in a collaborative fashion. He believes that the therapy room is a space for clients to show up unapologetically themselves and feel safe to explore and think about who they are and who they would like to be, free of judgment and free to share their experiences.

Kristopher is certified in Cognitive Processing Therapy by the Louisville VA. Additionally, he enjoys using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help clients increase psychological flexibility, develop acceptance, and generate committed action to change. He is inspired by the words of Bruce Lee regarding the adaptive properties of water as a metaphor to being human: "You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend." Kristopher believes that we can learn to be both vulnerable and strong depending on what life demands from us and that learning to be flexible in our experience and reactions to life events leads to greater mental health. Additionally, Dr. Mandy integrates humanistic principles, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Time-Limited Dynamic Psychotherapy into his work with clients.

Dr. Mandy has experience in working with clients struggling with PTSD, substance use disorders, anxiety, and depression. He has also worked with emerging adults (16yrs old to 25 yrs old) on transitional challenges and changes in life and enjoys using psychological assessments to improve client insight and understanding of self.

Outside of his professional life, Kristopher enjoys cooking, weight lifting, learning new things, and spending time with friends and family.
