Michael May

Michael May, MA, LPCC-S is a Clinical Associate and the Supervision & Training Coordinator at Mandala House. Within his clinical practice, Michael primarily works with adolescents and adults with anxiety-related concerns, panic disorder, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. In addition, Michael works with clients experiencing a wide array of presenting concerns including depression, trauma, and sexual and gender identity development.

With a deep commitment to providing empirically supported treatments to his clients. Michael is an expert in Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and in addition to utilizing this with his clients, he regularly provides training and consultation to other clinicians in this approach. He has also received advanced training in other contextual behavioral approaches to psychotherapy including Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Functional Analytic Psychotherapy (FAP), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).

When working with his clients, Michael’s primary objective is to form a committed partnership built on the mutual understanding of what success would look like for them: “What do you want your life to be about? What stands between you and building the life you want?” Psychotherapy can aid individuals in navigating difficult thoughts, feelings, and external barriers, and reclaim a life full of value, meaning, and vitality.

Michael is also an affiliate researcher with the Louisiana Contextual Science Research Group, an international behavioral science laboratory centered out of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and under the direction of Dr. Emily Sandoz. His research primarily focuses on the clinical implications of specific philosophical systems for a natural science of human behavior and alleviating human psychological suffering. His additional research interests include conceptualizing important matters such as interpersonal consent, gender, and cultural awareness and humility, all using basic behavioral science principles.

Michael received his Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He is a member of the Association for Contextual Behavioral Science (occupying several leadership positions) and the Association for Behavior Analysis International. Michael is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC-S) in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) in the State of Illinois.
