Stacy Sexton, M.A.
Postdoctoral Clinician
Stacy Sexton, M.A., is committed to fostering healing, growth, and empowerment in the therapy room. She uses humanistic, developmental, and cognitive-behavioral orientations in order to provide individualized, wholistic mental health care. She also uses multiculturally informed practices to build safety and to guide clinical practices. Stacy has experience treating a broad range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma related disorders, substance use disorders, and serious mental illnesses. She also has experience in conducting a broad range of psychological evaluations. Stacy has provided mental health services to individuals across the lifespan from early childhood to late adulthood. She enjoys working with the LGBT+ community and traditionally marginalized groups who vary in national origin, race/ethnicity, and spiritual practices.
Stacy has a master’s degree in psychology and is expected to receive her doctorate in clinical psychology from Marshall University on August the 8th of 2025. She is trained as a generalist but also has specialty interests and certifications. During her clinical training, she worked with individuals, couples, families, and groups in outpatient, residential, integrated, and inpatient psychiatric settings. Her internship was with the Department of Veteran Affairs and included rotations in the Trauma Recovery Program, the Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program, Inpatient Psychiatric Care Services, Compensation and Pension evaluations, and the General Mental Health Clinic.
Stacy is certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and has competency based training in Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). ART is an evidence-based psychotherapy developed to treat PTSD and trauma-related disorders but is also used to treat other mental health issues (read more at: https://acceleratedresolutiontherapy.com/). Stacy also uses treatment interventions based in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing (MI/MET), and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
Stacy has a passion for providing support and treatment for those who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault. She also has interest in providing treatment for mental health issues that are secondary to trauma, such as substance use disorders. Stacy worked as a sexual assault victim advocate for over six years wherein she provided medical advocacy, law enforcement advocacy, and court accompaniment. Part of her job as a victim advocate was also to build connections in the community, to provide education to college students and community organizations, and to train volunteers. Increasing awareness, advocating, and creating social change was central to her work.
